As President of the Onsite Wastewater Professionals of Illinois, I am asking for your help by joining other Illinois wastewater professionals and myself as a member of this organization. Presently, there are 140 members of O.W.P.I.
The mission statement of O.W.P.I. is: "To advance and promote the onsite wastewater community in Illinois, serving all aspects including manufacturers, contractors, field practitioners, suppliers, engineers and designers, research and academic professionals, consultants, property owners, builders/developers/realtors, and governmental regulatory personnel."
If you consider yourself as one of the above, you should undoubtedly join this proactive and ever-growing group.
The purposes for which the corporation was founded include the improvement of the conditions of the onsite wastewater community by working toward the establishment of uniform standards of all facets of the industry; to establish relationships that will increase the flow of information between members, organizations and agencies having complementary objectives; to compile and disseminate statistics and other information affecting our membership; to inform and educate the public regarding the value of onsite wastewater treatment and the need for properly designed and maintained treatment systems; to protect the environment by assisting the development of sound ecological practices in manufacture, design, siting, installation, maintenance and management of onsite wastewater treatment and disposal systems; to unite in common organization those professionally involved in the onsite wastewater community; and to formulate and maintain ethical standards for the guidance of its members in their relations with each other and with the public.
The timing of this letter is important to you because of the proposed changes that are being introduced into the Illinois Legislature that may very well change the way you will be allowed to conduct your business. There is currently a Governor's Advisory Commission consisting of 17 members representing all facets of the industry. The commission is appointed by the Governor of the State of Illinois and has the authority to update and recommend changes in the law that will affect the Private Sewage Disposal Licensing Act as we now know it.
As you can see, these changes will affect everyone in the onsite sewage disposal industry throughout the entire State of Illinois. However, your voice can be heard! By joining O.W.P.I. today, your concerns about these and other issues may be passed on through your regional representative so that they can be discussed and action taken as a group making ALL of our voices heard by legislators and regulators. There is strength in numbers!
This is why we need your help. And you need ours. We must all stick together to achieve our common goals. This is an industry where major legislative changes can be enacted upon us in the name of environmental purity, not only altering the way business will be conducted, but also forcing many out of business in the process. We NEED your support. Your voice does count. Please join us so that we may help each other. I have included an application. Please fill it out and mail it with your check today. Every day you wait is a day that your voice in these matters is not being heard?? I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
